Building a 4x5 pinhole camera

A workshop note about making a large-format 4x5 pinhole camera and the practical constraints behind the build.

A pinhole camera looks simple, but the format makes every detail matter: film plane, rigidity, light sealing and the distance between the pinhole and the film. This project follows the creation of a 4x5 pinhole camera, with the usual workshop compromises between precision, available materials and ease of use.The result is a slow photographic tool, but one that is very direct and satisfying to use.
