Canon A-1 battery drain caused by current leakage

A common Canon A-1 failure: a fresh battery drains too quickly because of dirty or leaking contacts inside the body.

The Canon A-1 is a solid electronic camera, but age often shows up through contact problems. In this case, a new battery was drained far too quickly even when the camera was not being used. The first step is to isolate the drain, then inspect the usual contact areas and switches. Oxidation, dirt or a slightly stuck contact can be enough to create a permanent leakage path. After cleaning and checking the circuit behavior, the camera can return to normal battery life without replacing major electronic parts.
